Work these days, when compared to say 30 years ago must be completely different. I suppose all parents have told stories of how working back in the day was so much more demanding and hard and how you were glad if you had a job. I suppose now, compared to then even if you do not have a job the government assist you, as with centre link here in Australia. I guess it takes away that fear of what if.
The reading was talking about how now, people are constantly having to re-train and unlearn old skills in order to gain new skills combined with new technology to do their job. I guess that would make things different, but then again I suppose the attitude to work has changed from say 30 years ago.
I'm not sure if I made sense there, but basically this reading just sort of strew my thoughts a million different directions, and to be quite honest I think it would be easier if I had been around say 30 years ago in the working world, and was in the working world right now. So seeing as I'm not I guess it's sort of hard to really grasp the concept of the reading, the subject at hand.

I think the whole re-train your mind thing makes sense. I mean look at computers now compared to them 20 years ago...so much has changed! People need to stay on top of the new technology or they will not be as qualified for their job/new jobs.
Yeah, I also think that the whole idea of retraining your mind makes sense. With these new technologies that continue to arrive, even before the old ones become obsolete, we have to change quickly and learn how to adapt as fast as everyone else so that we may keep up with others that have similar qualifications to us. If we are looking for a job in our days, it is expected that we know and have basic computer skills. With the importance that has newly been placed on technological advances and their uses in the work place (as apposed to 30 years ago)we have the need to be able to rapidly adapt to the fast pace in which technology changes. I think another important note is that there is a change in the creation and flow of knowledge. I think less importance is now being placed on actual knowledge and instead the importance is being refocused on the ability to find and process that knowledge, seeing as it is a lot more accessible to everyone that it was before
Yeah. Retraining seems to be the way to go. Though if I think about how quickly and easily we can adapt, it's sort of scary. I mean kids these days can figure things out lightning fast compared to the older generation, it's amazing but at the same time it sort of worries me i guess.
I also think its scary!
I mean young kids walking around with iPhone's and with the ability to access the internet with one click.
No wonder the younger generation is getting older quickly....
